About Us
Jo Butcher is an embroidery artist,
businesswoman, and flower enthusiast with a story of overcoming loss and
finding joy with her own version of gardening - using a needle and thread
instead of trowel and fork.
The story
25 years ago, Jo picked up a copy of the embroidery magazine Inspirations, while pregnant with her first daughter, thinking it looked fun and intriguing - though probably not something she’d have much time to work on with a new baby. Sadly, at 6 months old Jo and her husband’s little girl was diagnosed with a genetic condition, and they lost her 4 months later. “I then had too much time,” Jo says. “With a broken heart and empty arms, I turned to the magazine and embroidery became my therapy.”

With an art and fashion background, Jo was able to find solace in doing something creative with her hands, while studying the natural beauty of flowers she loves. “It’s a great excuse to gather wildflowers from our orchard at home in Somerset or visit a country garden for inspiration.”
Since she started embroidering full time in 2012, Jo has embroidered thousands of pieces of artwork, created projects for Inspirations and taught at their seminars ‘Beating Around the Bush’ in Australia.
For the last few years, she has concentrated on selling her original artworks at quality Craft Fairs and Flower Shows and in recent years at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where she’s been a firm favorite with visitors from near and far since 2023.
